The Lebanese Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery – LSRM was established by an official decree from the Ministry of Interior No. 6812 date 25/05/1995, published in the Lebanese official Journal No. 31 on 3/08/1995; Financial Registration No. 3459487.
The founding members were B. Atiyeh, MD, R. Moucharafieh, MD, S. Roukoz, MD, G. Khalil, MD, and M. Abi Fadel, MD.
LSRM activities include organization of local microsurgery conferences. “Update on Microsurgical Free Tissue Transfer and Replantation Surgery” was the first scientific activity organized in Lebanon on April 25, 1998. In 2011 Prof. B. Atiyeh was appointed by the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery – WSRM as WSRM Country Liaison for Lebanon. On Nov. 17-18, 2012, LSRM organized The 1st Lebanese Hand and Reconstructive Surgery Conference, its first major conference. The First Lebanese Hand and Upper Arm Surgery and Rehabilitation Meeting was then organized in June 15-16, 2013, and hosted Prof. Panayotis Soucacos in Beirut. The Lebanese Plastic & Reconstructive Microsurgery Conference / 1st Congress of the Pan Arab Federation for Reconstructive Microsurgery, was then organized on Sept. 14-15, 2018. This conference was the occasion to host in Beirut Prof. Alexandru Georgescu and Prof. Isao Koshima.
LSRM has collaborated with the Lebanese Society of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery – LSPRAS and the Association of Plastic Surgeons of Lebanese Descent – APSLD for the organization of Hand and Reconstructive Surgery sessions during LSPRAS and APSLD conferences. For 4 consecutive years, it has supported several residents to train in microsurgical techniques. At present, it is at the down of a new revival.
More than 2 decades after founding of the Lebanese Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery – LSRM, Reconstructive Microsurgery has progressed greatly in Lebanon and is now being practiced routinely in various major Lebanese hospitals for the great benefit of our patients.
Currently LSRM is a corresponding member of the European Federation of Societies for Microsurgery – EFSM.
All Plastic Reconstructive and Orthopedic Surgeons interested in Reconstructive Microsurgery are welcome to join f the LSRM and are encouraged to join the WSRM.
